Subaru Performance E-STI EV concept teased for JMS – Performance-B STI also due; return of WRX STI?

Subaru has announced its line-up of vehicles that will be shown at this year’s Japan Mobility Show (JMS), which kicks off at the end of this month. The company’s booth at the event will be divided into two sections, with one being the ‘Performance Scene’ while the other is dubbed the ‘Adventure Scene’.

The Performance Scene will see the debut of two concepts, starting with the Performance-E STI, an electric vehicle (EV) that is said to represent Subaru’s new generation of performance. Based on the provided teaser image, the electric concept will sport a sleek, aerodynamic design and could take the form of a four-door sedan.

Subaru uses descriptors like aesthetic proportions, practicality, driver-friendly layout, comfortable and spacious interior for the Performance-E STI, but doesn’t mention anything about the electric powertrain. However, it’s safe to assume that this concept could eventually become a production model that customers will be able to buy, unlike the STI E-RA that was a full-on race car with electric power.

Next up, there’s the Performance-B STI concept that the company says “achieves a balance of advanced performance and power with practicality.” The teaser for this looks a lot like the current WRX, albeit with significantly flared wheel arches, and looks to be the car that was teased back in June this year – could the WRX STI (the CVT-equipped S210 doesn’t count) make a return?

Moving over to the Adventure Scene, we have the a Trailseeker prototype that takes the brand’s second production EV and piles on the adventure gear (a roof box as far as we can tell) for those with active lifestyles that take them outdoors.

There will also be two Wilderness prototypes based on the Forester and Outback, which suggests the ‘Wilderness’ name will soon be used for variants sold outside the United States. Both SUVs sport a tough, rugged design and benefit from enhanced off-road capability and functionality. Joining these cars is the Family Huckster, a modified 1983 Subaru GL wagon that was driven by Travis Pastrana in the 12th edition of the Gymkhana series popularised by the late Ken Block.
