2026 GWM Ora Good Cat bookings open in Malaysia – 57.7 kWh LFP; new 171 PS GT; below RM115k est

Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia has announced it is now accepting bookings for the new Ora Good Cat, which will see the addition of a GT variant.

According to the company, the regular Good Cat is estimated to be priced below RM115,000, while it is below RM125,000 for the GT. The current Good Cat is listed on GWM Malaysia’s website at RM114,500 on-the-road without insurance for the 400 Pro and RM144,500 for the 500 Ultra.

First launched in Malaysia in November 2022, the Good Cat has remained largely the same, with one significant change being the introduction of a new exterior colour and accompanying two-tone interior in February last year.

The updated model due to be launched gets more significant updates, one of them being “refreshed styling” as stated in the company’s release. This could point towards the facelift that was introduced in China in June this year, which sees a redesigned bumper that cuts the chrome accents, gains slim corner air inlets and a more prominent main intake. However, brightening the teaser image posted on GWM Malaysia’s Facebook page (shown below) reveals no new front bumper.

As for the powertrain, the new Good Cat makes the switch to a SVOLT-supplied lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with an energy capacity of 57.7 kWh. Before this, the Good Cat launched here with two battery options, including a 47.8-kWh LFP unit in the 400 Pro, and a 63.1-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery in the 500 Ultra – both are supplied by CATL.

The new battery is said to provide up to 480 km of range following the NEDC standard, which is more than the 400 Pro (400 km) but less than the 500 Ultra (500 km). AC charging is kept at 6.6 kW, while DC fast charging at the maximum 60 kW will get the battery from a 30-80% state of charge in 38 minutes. For context, the 400 Pro needs about 32 minutes for its LFP battery, while the 500 Ultra takes 40 minutes with its NMC unit.

While the battery is new, the front electric motor appears to stay unchanged and continues to be rated at 143 PS (141 hp or 105 kW) and 210 Nm of torque. Other features touted include a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, leatherette upholstery, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, telematics via the My GWM app as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. One change we can expect is the shift to a column-mounted gear selector instead of a rotary dial on the centre console.

Shifting over to the Good Cat GT, the sporty version of the electric hatchback was teased back in April this year before making an appearance at the Merdeka parade. Styling-wise, the GT gets a different front bumper with larger corner air inlets, side skirts, wheel arch surrounds, GT-specific alloy wheels and rear spoiler, yellow brake calipers, and an interior with GT sport seats, yellow stitching as well as suede/leather upholstery.

Like with the non-GT variant, a 57.7-kWh LFP battery is used for the GT, albeit delivering slightly less range at 460 km (NEDC). This is likely due to the more powerful electric motor at the front that delivers 171 PS (169 hp or 126 kW) and 250 Nm of torque. The tech and safety features of the GT are identical to the regular Good Cat, although it does come with a launch control function.

We should point out that the new specifications mirror the Good Cat sold in Thailand, which was updated and locally assembled (CKD) there from the 2024 model year. Additionally, the retention of the Good Cat name means the electric vehicle (EV) won’t be renamed to the Ora 03. What remains unknown is if the Good Cat will finally become a locally-assembled (CKD) EV through partner EP Manufacturing (EPMB) with this update.
